Little U.S. Concern Over Global Warming

While 61% of Americans are aware that the effects of Global Warming have begun, only slightly more than one third say they worry about it a great deal, a proportion that has changed little over the past 20 years, according to Gallup polls.

Even with a rising global climate and toxic water systems, I think this may the the most alarming fact. With all of the information out there and all of the effort that so many people put into educating the public, I think it is tragic that so many ignore the problems we cause and refuse to see things that they think don't effect them. Just because you may not see the changes today doesn't mean that they wont be harmful to you personally in the future.

I agree with mavice's comment. It is alarming and tragic to see these problems only getting worse over the years when it has become very publically and nationally known and widespread. we need to curb our consumption habbits to sustain our planet for our children and children's children.

Personally, I'm generally just surprised at how the effect of globally warming hasn't alarmed a great amount of people more than in 1990 compared to now. I think that considering there is much more evidence that Green House gases effect our global temperatures and great environmental factors now then 18 years ago, the amount of concern should have risen dramatically. Are people really just not concerned for the future generations at all?

I guess we are not that blessed to live in developed society ... We have lost the sense of what we really need... for more than 15 years I really thought that only need to get the new phone, computer, bike, clothes ...etc
Now I feel I need to be aware of the consequence of my choices ! I had never realized that my purchase choices were contibuting in degrading the environment and empoverishing the rest of the world. Now even though I am just a student I try to buy only local, organic, or Fair Trade (when I have enough money ;)
Not only my purchasing behavior has CHANGED since I am aware, but now I unplug all apliances, recycle, turn off the light everywhere I can and ride a bike ! Tis is good to know that awarness can bring the CHANGE !

Global warming is a pressing issue, especially for the current generation. I believe that people are not as concerned as they should be because they are ignorant or just dont give a damn. Awareness of the greenhouse effect needs to be spread so that more people can reaqlize the severity of the situation. Enlightenment should start at the elementary level so that by the time students have matured, their subconscious will be engraved with mälama for our `äina.

I agree with Cedi! This next generation needs to take a step into taking care of our 'äina. If we don't start taking care of the environment now then it might be too late to fix later.
